They are both style icons but share very different tastes.
So it comes as a surprise that when the Duchess of Cambridge stepped out in an Alexander McQueen dress on Monday, it had previously been work by Sarah Jessica Parker - five years ago.
Sarah wore a navy version of the cable-knit dress back in 2006 when she attended the unveiling of husband Matthew Broderick's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Being Sarah Jessica Parker, the Sex and the City actress lived up to alter-ego Carrie Bradshaw's fashionista reputation, teaming the dress with red corsage stilettos.
Kate meanwhile wore matching court shoes by Prada and had her hair in a loose ponytail for the fifth day of her Royal tour in Canada. SJP wore hers down.
The dress pre-dates the death of McQueen and so is likely to have been designed by him, rather than Sarah Burton, the current creative director.
The fact that Kate opted for an archive dress, rather than just picking what is out in the shops, indicates she is paying even more attention to her wardrobe than first thought.
Unavailable in shops though, it is one dress that won't be a sell-out hit.
