Raveena Tandon |
It only helped matters so see a ravishing Raveena, better known as 'Ravs' to friends and family, walk down an ornate aisle lit up with fairy lights dressed in an elegant shimmering lehnga. Squeezing in time to meet her fan in the middle of a family wedding, the actor looked every bit the diva she is, and then some.
For a 37-year-old mother of two, she cut a strikingly well maintained slender frame prompting a star-struck Garg to ask how she managed to look as good as she does. Raveena started off animatedly, "Look, I'll be 40 soon.
I am a mother of two, I know I don't look as slim as a Kareena or a Katrina. So what? I am not supposed to. I am in love with my life right now, I am a hands-on mom and my kids need all my time and energy. I am in the middle of shifting and I really don't have the time to exercise. I don't have a trainer.
There are days when I get on the treadmill, and there are days when I have something better to do. I don't really care any more." Without breaking a sweat she carried on, "The media these days wants to compare my so-called 'comeback' and look with these youngsters.
First of all, I have been doing things off and on, so Buddha... isn't really a comeback. It's just something I did because it was fun, and coming from Amit Sir, I couldn't refuse. And why compare how I look to someone who is years younger? Back then it was Sridevi, Madhuri and me; people liked voluptous women. It's just a trend, this size-zero. I'm happy this way. "
Making Garg's 'comeback' question moot - "Where is the market for heroine-oriented roles these days? Some gave me good reviews and some thought my role was over the top. It was a caricature, the role was supposed to be a loud Punjabi woman and the director thought I was perfect for it.
I don't have anything left to prove to any one any more. I've been there and done that. I've worked with the best directors, top actors, best films. When Julia Roberts or Sandra Bullock do one film a year, it's not called a comeback is it? In fact, I'm leaving for Goa tomorrow to shoot for my next film and my husband kept wishing it gets cancelled. He says 'Why do you need to work so soon,'" she says, catching her breath.
"Tell me which movie you liked most. Ask me something you've wanted to," she said looking at Garg.
The blushing collegian said she enjoyed her movies with Govinda. "Chi Chi and I did some fantastic work together and what really worked for us was our love for dancing.
Songs like Kissi disco main jaayen and Akhiyon se goli maare were so popular but we started shooting at 9 am and wrapped up at 6 pm, within the day.
That's how quick we were, always working to catch on and keep up," she remembers.
The sangeet music interrupted our tete-a-tete and her six-year-old daughter came running with a mehendi-clad outstretched palm.
The diva-cum-mummy politely posed for pictures and excused herself to join the family in an evening full of dancing.
