Little Richard and Million Dollar Quartet rocked the Capitol lawn last night for “A Capitol Fourth.”
Music legend Little Richard and the Million Dollar Quartet were only a few of the performers featured at the July 4th celebration. Among the star-studded lineup were “American Idol” favorite Jordin Sparks, Josh Groban and Steve Martin and his Steep Canyon Rangers. The event was hosted by Jimmy Smits.
As BluePlanetNews reports, the age difference among the performers was rather large, ranging from the 78-year-old Little Richard to the 21-year-old Jordin Sparks.
The Million Dollar Quartet is perhaps the most unusual of the groups who performed. The quartet is essentially a cover band consisting of Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis impersonators. The name actually comes from the name given to a set of recordings that resulted among the four legendary artists when they engaged in a jam session at Sun Record Studios.
The annual performance will air tonight on PBS.
