Perhaps the reason behind Rory McIlroy’s distracted British Open performance was not the weather, but the Wozniacki.
The 22-year-old U.S. Open winner may have a new woman in his life, after splitting with long-time girlfriend Holly Sweeney before playing at St. George’s last weekend, according to his management team.
“Rory McIlroy’s long-term relationship with Holly Sweeney came to an amicable end before the British Open,” an International Sports Management spokesman (ISM) said.
But after his disappointing showing on Sunday, reports surfaced that he might have a new shoulder to cry on — Danish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki. Yahoo! Sports Busted Racquet blog has photos of the couple together at dinner, and later sharing a kiss. The original photos were taken down after the U.K. blogger who posted them on Twitter thought it might be a bit rude to splash other people’s private business on the Internet.
Where did it all go wrong for McIlroy and Sweeney? That’s a job for those gossip blogs, and not Posted Sports. We also won’t put together a Twitter timeline of their “flirtatious moments.” But if McIlroy ends up with 50+ mistresses and cries an apology on national television, we will keep you posted.
