SingaPop

Singapore's Economic Development Board (EDB) has added a musical concert to its list of events to mark its 50th anniversary.

SingaPop!, a free public concert, will be staged at the Promontory@Marina Bay on August 20.

Produced by local celebrity Dick Lee, the concert will pay tribute to the music and musicians who have shaped Singapore's pop scene for the past 50 years.

Some of the artistes performing at the concert include 'a-go-go' queen Sakura Teng from the 1960's, Vernon Cornelius, Kit Chan, Olivia Ong and indie pub band, Jack & Rai.

Jayson Goh, chairperson of the organising committee for EDB's 50th anniversary celebrations, said: "When people talk about economic development, it seems like a very serious topic.

"So through SingaPop!, a music concert, we hope to bring the celebration of Singapore's economic success to different generations of Singaporeans through a more light-hearted and joyous way."

Recently, EDB had organised an exhibition tracing Singapore's economic development journey, and a "Heritage Relay" highlighting the role of partnerships in Singapore's development.

SingaPop! is fully sponsored by leading corporations, comprising both multinational companies with substantial presence here, as well as major Singaporean companies.
