The Incredibles |
"The Incredibles" is about a family with super powers that (along with every other super hero) got banned from using their powers because it led to so much, even though they are protecting citizens. So they kept their identities a secret for nobody to no about, as if they didn't even exist. Mr. Incredible (Bob is his real name) gets in touch with an organization that could the super hero back on his feet, but this leads to trouble and puts the world in sake.
The game is a brawler/platformer, however is makes the game a bit of a bad mix and quite possibly disappointing, and as are most movies made into games. There are four playable characters in "The Incredibles." Mr. Incredible (who the game mostly revolves around) has super strength and can lift heavy objects, allowing him to throw them at enemies. He can even pick up enemies and throw them. Mrs. Incredible has super stretching power and can stretch like taffy to get swing gaps and attack far distant enemies. Dash has super speed and can run as fast as a race car. And lastly, Violet can turn invisible and create force fields. They all have different types of gameplay, but does that stop this from being a forced game from the big screen?
Like I said, this not just platformer, it’s also a fighting game. Lots of enemies will come at you and you would have to, most of the time, defeat them all in order to progress. 75% of the game has you playing as Mr. Incredible. Since he does have super strength, he revolves around fighting. But this can lead to an unfair amount of enemies the game gives you that you have to defeat at once. Plus, some of the enemies are just plain annoying and somewhat hard to beat. Take this for example: you going through a level and come across a tank (one of the enemies in the game that is like its former name, only it’s a giant robot). You beat the tank you have a good amount of health left. Then another tank comes in and you beat that one. Now you only have a bit of health and ANOTHER tank comes in. The game gets too hard for even experienced players to try and deal with.
To add to that, the checkpoints are WAY too far apart. This means that you have to complete sessions that you got absolutely frustrated with again. Plus, lots of things in the game can kill you in one hit. This includes electricity, lava, and bottomless pits. Moving past Mr. Incredible, we have Mrs. Incredible, who also revolve around fighting at times. She has an “automatic lock-on system” that gets in the way a lot in the game. Every time you face an enemy, Mrs. Incredibles’ “lock-on system” would get in the way of everything. She also can grab far distant objects and swing across gaps, but is still hard to play as.
Next, we have Dash. Dash’s gameplay is WAY different than the rest of the Incredibles. Dash revolves around racing, avoiding bottomless pits and objects he can crash into. You can also have Dash go super fast, but if he goes too fast for just few seconds, he’ll wipe out. The plus side about Dash is that there’s fighting involved with his stages.
By far, the worse one to play as is Violet. I was excited to play as Violet, but I found out that playing as her is a huge pain. She can go invisible, but for only 5-10 seconds. Plus, she can’t attack and can die in one hit. So her gameplay revolves around sneaking past enemies, nut she can easily get caught by wither her limited invisibility or the fact the enemies can notice even a small bug flying past them.
When playing as Mr. and Mrs. Incredible, there are power-ups that fill up a bar that have them deal “incredipunches.” These are powerful, but the power bar drains quicker than you think. You can move will dealing an “incredipunch” and that can have them rampage through enemies, but even that doesn’t help that much. The enemies can either have too much health or are so tricky to beat, you don’t ever get the chance to attack them. There are also shooting sequences, but those too are just flat out boring and tedious. Mainly because you can never dodge attacks and right at the moment you have the enemy down, the fire back and you die. LAME.
There’s extras to find that unlocks concept art for the game, but that have you come back to play this game. Graphics aren’t the best, but it’s a movie made into a game, so most of it isn’t the best. Sound isn’t the best work either and sounds muffled when dealing a punch on an enemy or enemy ticks before exploding into tiny pieces.
“The Incredibles” sure isn’t as “incredible” as you would expect from it. But since it’s movie rushed into a game, it’s not always the best. My suggestion is to skip it because of its annoying enemies, many ways to die besides the enemies and far distant checkpoints. But if you want to play the game (which you shouldn’t) then rent it and try to beat it. After that, never play it again. It’s just another half good movie game that is better off being left alone and never played, especially this one.
